There was a special moment in your life when you surrendered to the Lord Jesus and prayed to have Him take control. What you did not know then, and perhaps have never fully contemplated since, is that at the very moment of that humble prayer, an innumerable number of incredible, supernatural events occurred simultaneously.

What do I mean? Allow me to share just a few of these glorious realities with you.

1. A Definitive Rebirth

In that quiet fraction of a second, you were born from above (John 3:3)—a spiritual rebirth took place that God alone initiated (see Ezekiel 36:25-27, NET). Just as physical birth gave you biological life for the earthly realm, spiritual birth gave you divine life for the spiritual realm. The aorist tense of John 3:3 signifies a definitive, past, point-in-time event (the day you gave your life to Christ), while the passive voice means it was done to you by the Holy Spirit. You were saved by grace alone, through faith alone, by Jesus Alone. It was—and remains—a completed miracle.

2. A Continuous Cleansing

You were cleansed from ALL your sins (Ephesians 1:7; Romans 5:9; 1 Peter 1:18-19)—regenerated, justified, redeemed by the precious blood of Christ—and you continue to be cleansed each and every time you confess your shortcomings (1 John 1:9)! When we “...walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). The phrase "cleanses us" is written in a tense that means an ongoing, continuous action [1]. Even as you strive to walk in the light and inevitably stumble, the blood of Jesus is continually at work, washing away sin and keeping you in fellowship with God.

3. A New Identity

You experienced spiritual heart surgery, and the Spirit of God came to dwell in your heart permanently (Romans 8:9; Ezekiel 36:25-27, 1 Corinthians 6:19). At that exact moment, you became a new creation in Christ Jesus; old things passed away, and all things became new (2 Corinthians 5:17). That nanosecond fundamentally changed who you were from the inside out.

4. A Permanent Acquittal

You were justified by faith (Romans 5:1). The millisecond you trusted in Christ, God legally declared you “not guilty” and righteous in His sight. He officially dismissed all charges against you and credited you with the perfect righteousness of Jesus. Unlike sanctification (the lifelong process of becoming more like Christ), justification is a completed, once-and-for-all event. That’s why Jesus said, “It is finished!” (John 19:30).

  1. The angels in heaven broke out into singing, rejoicing over your conversion (Luke 15:10)!

6. An Irrevocable Adoption

You were adopted into the family of God (Ephesians 1:5). In Roman law, a biological father held absolute power (patria potestas) over his children. Adoption completely severed a person from their previous family and authority - from their PAST! Under Roman law, an adopted child acquired all of the legal rights of a natural-born child and lost ALL rights held in his former family [2].

Furthermore, when Paul speaks of adoption (huiothesia), he uses the aorist tense. Once adopted, a person was viewed as a completely new individual. All previous debts were legally wiped out and canceled, and the adoptee could never be disinherited or disowned. They took the full name of the father, and the act was entirely irrevocable [3]. God will never disown you! As John said, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God…” (1 John 3:2a, KJV). You are in the ever-present NOW of salvation! Hallelujah!

7. A Royal Endorsement

You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13). Just as a king would use a signet ring to press his mark into wax, claiming a document or treasure as his own, God places His Spirit inside you as an official mark of ownership, security, and validation. You belong entirely to Him. The royal seal guaranteed the contents inside were authentic, untouched, and safe from tampering. It means God approves, protects, and endorses you. His “seal” guarantees your eternal inheritance and confirms you are permanently His. Thank You, Lord!

8. A Heavenly Registry

Your name was written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Philippians 4:3). My friend, think about the magnitude of this truth: your name has been permanently inscribed in the Lamb’s Book of Life. The apostle Paul reminds us this is not a temporary ledger subject to the whims of time; it is God’s eternal register, securing your future forever in the presence of Jesus Christ.

In the divine courtroom of heaven, having your name written in that book means the ultimate verdict has already been handed down. You are recognized by Almighty God not as a stranger, but as a fully naturalized citizen of heaven. You can live today with the absolute certainty that your eternal destination is secure.

9. An Imputed Righteousness

You are now righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). The moment you placed your faith in Christ, another marvel took place. Your standing before God was forever transformed. Through what theologians call "imputation," your sins were placed on Christ, and His perfect righteousness was credited to you. As 2 Corinthians 5:21 powerfully declares, He became sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God. My friend, you stand today clothed not in your own flawed efforts, but in the flawless righteousness of Jesus Christ. Glory to the Lamb!

10. A Total Relocation

You were repositioned. “He [God] has rescued us and has drawn us to Himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son” (Colossians 1:13, AMP). That should cause every believer to stop and marvel. He says we have been “transferred” into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. In the original Greek, that word is metestēsen. Historically, it was used to describe a conquering king who would march into a defeated territory, claim the captured people as his own, and forcibly relocate the entire population to a brand-new kingdom of safety and abundance.

My friend, that is exactly what the King of kings has done for you. He marched into the enemy’s territory, broke the chains of sin that held you captive, and completely repositioned you. This wasn't a gradual transition or a tentative move; the Bible uses a tense that means it is a finished, historical fact. You have already been moved. You no longer belong to the dominion of darkness. You are a citizen of the Kingdom of Light, living under the permanent protection of the Son of His love.

Hallelujah! You have a brand-new address in the heavenlies. But there is more...

11. Seated in Glory

The mystery of God’s grace goes even deeper than a changed address. Not only has your citizenship changed, but you have a chair in that new kingdom right now. The Apostle Paul reveals this mind-boggling truth in Ephesians 2:6, declaring that at the very moment of your salvation, God “raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

Think about that. Positionally, because you are in a living, unbreakable union with Jesus Christ, Almighty God views you as already seated on the throne alongside Jesus. While your feet are planted on this earth, facing the trials and storms of everyday life, your spiritual reality is already fixed in glory. The battle is over, the victory is won, and your seat next to the King is secure for all eternity.

Living as an Ambassador

Friend, I want you to pause and let that settle in your spirit. These few incredible miracles are not merely theological concepts or abstract ideas—they are the settled, historical facts of what transpired the very moment you surrendered your life to Jesus. Your entire identity was rewritten by the hand of God.

You see, Jesus gave us the perspective we need in John 17:16. He said of His followers, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” Yet, they were all standing in the world when He made that statement. So in reality, we are in the world, but not of the world.

My friend, this means you have dual citizenship. You are walking these earthly streets, breathing this earthly air, and fulfilling your earthly duties, but your heart, your loyalty, and your true home belong to a higher Kingdom. You are an ambassador for the King of Glory, stationed here for a time, but living by the laws and the light of heaven. Never forget: while you are in this world, you are no longer of this world. You are a citizen of the Kingdom that is coming, and that reality should change everything about how you see yourself and how you need to operate in this world on a daily basis.

Looking Ahead

Now, the next time we gather around the Word of God, I want to take this a step further. By the grace of God, I want to share some critical insights on exactly how we are to live as multidimensional believers—citizens of two worlds. How do we practically navigate life when we have one foot firmly planted in this natural realm, dealing with the realities of everyday life, while our hearts and our true position remain firmly established in the heavenly realm? It is the great paradox of the Christian life, and it is the key to walking in supernatural power and victory every single day.

Total Allegiance

For now however, let’s remember all God has done in that nanosecond salvation experience. Let’s recall that while we must obey the natural and governmental principles, our overarching allegiance is not to this world, but to the principles and Kingdom of our Father in Heaven.

Think of it like a world-class Olympic athlete. During the 1992 Summer Olympics, sports commentators frequently highlighted a phenomenal swimmer named Martin Zubero [4]. He was born in the United States. He was raised on American soil, trained in American facilities, and even competed for the University of Florida. Geographically and culturally, he was immersed in the American way of life.

Yet, when he stepped onto the highest platform in sports, he swam under the red and yellow colors of Spain. Why? Because his father was a Spanish citizen, granting Martin dual citizenship. When the moment of truth arrived, he did not look to his immediate surroundings or follow the crowd around him. His allegiance was anchored to his father’s homeland, and he chose to represent his father’s nation above all else.

What a powerful illustration for you and me today! As “resident aliens” on this earth, we are surrounded by a worldly culture that constantly demands our devotion. It wants us to swim under its flag, adopt its corrupt morals, and pour our lives into building temporal, earthly riches. But the Apostle Paul is telling us that our lives must be anchored elsewhere. We cannot afford to be worldly-minded. Our focus must be completely fixed on Jesus Christ.

Like that Olympian, your ultimate loyalty does not belong to the earthly soil you walk on; it belongs to your Heavenly Father and His Kingdom.

Amen?
